New computer - Entourage reads old email, but crashes withattachments

R

Rochelle Newman

I just got a new harddrive; I connected my old harddrive via firewire and
migrated all my information from the old one to the new one. Most things
are running fine and entourage opened fine and saw all my email. But if I
click on any email that had an attachment, entourage immediately crashes.
Email that does not have an attachment is fine, but attachments (regardless
of what folder they¹re in newmail or various saved messages) crash the
program. Selecting Entourage Help also crashes the program. Any
suggestions?

1) Drag the Microsoft Office 2008 folder to the Trash.
2) Empty Trash.
3) Reinstall Office 2008 from your original installation disk. See details
Install Office 2008
<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/install/install_office2008.html>
<http://tinyurl.com/6kd5oc>
4) Restart
5) Update
6) Restart (restarting before you launch any app is important!)

IMPORTANT: Quit all Microsoft applications (Easy way: log out/in with Shift
key down to disable any startup items.) when installing or updating.

Tip: Launch AutoUpdate from the Help menu in any Office application. When it
shows up in the Dock select to "keep in dock" This way you can find it
without opening an Office application that would cause a problem with the
install and update.

Because of the way you migrated, this might not fix the attachment issue. I
would advise you to test in a new User. Go to System Preferences --> Create
a New User in Accounts. Switch to the New User by logging out/in or use Fast
User Switching.

Drag your Microsoft User Data folder rather than migrate it to the Documents
folder. Do you see the same attachment problem?
