New Desktop

Running Outlook 2007 and Windows VISTA.

With Outlook 2007 running successfully on my existing desktop, I created a
new "desktop" window and attempted to open Outlook 2007 in the new desktop.
The program began to open, indicated that it was migrating settings, then
told me that it was unable to open my existing email files, as it did not
have permission to do so. It then closed, and I have been unable to open the
program at all.

I attempted both to "repair" and to re-install Outlook 2007, working on the
new desktop, but the results were the same when I tried again to open the
program.

How can I get the program to work from the new desktop?

A pst file can only be accessed by ONE instance of Outlook at any one time.
You (from what you say in your post) seem to be trying to access the same
file with two instances of outlook.
Can I ask what exactly you are trying to achieve?

Thanks for the response.

I should have mentioned that I had closed the copy of Outlook that was
running on the other desktop before trying to open it in a new one, and that
both desktops have "administrator" privileges.

What I'm trying to do is set up my laptop with different desktops for myself
and my wife, since we both use the same machine. I would like to be able to
open Outlook in either desktop in order to access the contacts files, to send
and receive email, etc. (Parenthetically, I have noticed that I AM able to
do that in Windows XP on my other computer, although there, too, I have some
problems in being unable to configure all the options.)

Is there any way to open Outlook in other desktop windows than the one on
which it was first installed?

Thanks, Bruce

I presume you mean two separate user accounts. (Windows doesn't have
multi-desktop environments as in Unix/Linux). If you do NOT mean you are
setting up a new user account, can you be more precise as to EXACTLY what
you are doing?

I think perhaps I'm stumbling on terminology here, and I believe I do mean
what you are referring to as "user accounts." When VISTA starts, it gives me
a choice of going to one of two "users," whose icons are displayed in the
startup routine, or "desktops" as is they called in the icon tray after they
are opened--that is, one of two different user views that I have set up, one
for myself and one for my wife, with different desktop icons, different
screen backgrounds, etc. These are the two different views that I can switch
between if I click the start/stop/program selection buttonwith the Windows
logo and select "switch user."

What I would like to do is simply to be able to access Outlook from
whichever user screen I happen to be on. Right now, I can only access it
from one of them.
