New docs don't show header/footer

Good morning, all! When I open a new document in Word
2003 on Windows XP, the header and footer do not show by
default, although they used to. It's suddenly changed in
the last few days and I can't figure out what happened or
how to fix it so that when I open my letterhead template,
for example, the logo in the header and address info in
the footer will be there by default. As it is now I have
to view|header and footer for every new document. I went
into bth normal.dot and my letterhead template and made
sure that header and footer were showing and then saved
those templates; still doesn't work. Any ideas?

Tools | Options | View: Check "White space between pages." Alternatively,
hover the mouse over the top of the page until the pointer becomes a
double-headed arrow and you see the ScreenTip "Show White Space," then
left-click. You'll note that the ScreenTip now says "Hide White Space." If
you click now, you'll be back where you started, which is probably how you
got there.
