new e-mail messages

When I bring up Outlook(2003), no new e-mail messages will be displayed in
the in box. I have to use the send receive button to display new messages.
Why? Also when I exit outlook, it places a small icon on the task bar. If I
right click on this icon and select open Outlook, I receive a message an
error message Outlook is not respnding.

Dutch,
Choose Options from the Tools drop down menu. Click on the
Mail Setup tab. Place a check in Send immediately when
connected.

Also ensure you have an automated polling interval set up and active.

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. Due to
the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.

After furious head scratching, dutch asked:

Hi Dutch,

Thanks for your posting here.

As for the new message issue, I suggest you check the option as Chuck has
mentioned.

1. Start Outlook.
2. Click Tools menu, and select Options.
3. On the Mail Setup tab, check the option Send immediately when connected.

As for the Outlook systray icon, it will auto display when the Outlook is
closed. You may use the following steps to narrow down it:

Step 1: Outlook Safe Mode
=================
a. Click Start, and then point to Programs.
b. Press CTRL while you click the shortcut for Outlook that you want to
start.
c. Hold down CTRL until you receive a message similar to the following:
"Outlook has detected that you are holding down the CTRL key. Do you want
to start Outlook in safe mode?" Click Yes.

Step 2: New Outlook profile
=============
Please create a new profile to isolate the issue.
For the steps on how to create a new profile, refer to the following
Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) article:
829918 How to create a new e-mail profile in Outlook 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=829918

Step 3: Clean Boot
============
1. Click Start -> Run, then type "msconfig" in the input box and press
Enter.
2. Click Selective startup, and then clear the check box next to "Load
startup items".
3. Click Service tab, click Hide All Microsoft Services to hide them, and
Disable All.
4. Click Apply and OK, then restart the computer.

Hope this helps! If anything is unclear or you need more help, just post
back to let me know. Happy new year!

Thanks & Regards
Alan Sun

Thanks for your suggestions. Chuck- I did already have a check in the Send
Imediatley box. I did not try the other suggestions as of now as I forgot to
mention I have Spam Inspectorinstalled on this machine. I did not think much
of it as I have installed it on 65 other WinXP mackines with no problems
although they were all using Outlook 2000. I removed from this machine and my
problem went away! I need to research Spam Inspector as it should fundtion on
Outlooh 2003 as well as Outlook2000. Thanks again for your prompt response to
my question.
