New Emails arrive in inbox as Read and are not bolded

I have a user that is receiving new emails into an outlook 2002 inbox as not
bolded and appearing as read. She does not have any rules on, I've checked
the unread message font and checked technet as well as other sites for any
information. She has also logged onto a different computer with the same
results. I don't see anything posted about it and I'm wondering if anyone
else has seen this before and resolved it.

Does this user have a blackberry or PDA?

sorry if this is a duplicate, I had posted my answer earlier but didn't see
it so I am reposting.

I finally got in touch with the user and no, she does not use either a
blackberry or any PDA. Any other ideas?

thanks,
mike

Ask her if she or anyone else ever accesses her mail via a web portal.

Take a look under Tools/Organize, select "Using Color" and then the
Advanced Formatting options make sure Unread Messages are formatted as
bold.

I had asked her what that font showed and she said it was bolded but I'm
going to remote into her system and double check that one. She did say that
messages arrive with the envelope open also so I want to watch that happen
also. This is very bizarre.

First off, let me apologize for being the dope for the day and wasting your
time. I know better than to believe anything a user says over the phone but
didn't follow through. I just remoted into this system and found a rule to
mark all emails as read. Don't ask me why anyone would create such a rule and
didn't want to get into trouble for smacking the knuckles of the user but I
really wanted to. My mantra again is, "Never, ever, ever, ever believe what a
user says EVER!!!"

That was actually going to be my next suggestion since you noted the
icons appeared as read mail too.

FWIW, you're certainly not the dope of the day and since these threads
are archived for others to view you never know how your experience and
the information provided will end up helping someone else out some
day. :)

Sometimes people do things like that without realizing what they are doing.
Just take a deep breath and be glad it's be resolved, ;-)
