New Enterprise Calendar

I'd like to change our current enterprise calendar. We currently use a 35
hour per week calendar, and would like to go to 40 hours per week.

Now, I could simply go in and change the hours in the enterprise calendar,
but I suspect the schedule changes would be dramatic.

Maybe a new 40 hour per week calendar applied to all resources would work
better?

Any thoughts on a good approach? Thanks.

I guess that depends on how many resources you have and what calendar
they will use. The hierarchy of calendars is Task > Resource >
Project. So it doesn't really matter if your project calendar has 7
hour days and your resource calendar has 8 hour days, since the
resource calendar trumps the project calendar.

I assume your current enterprise calendar has all of your company
holidays, etc in it. So the recommendation would be to copy and
rename it (for future use), then, in the currently enterprise
calendar, make the changes to increase hours per day from 7 to 8. The
good news is that the schedule changes should result in shorter
project duration.

Thanks Mark, that's what I figured.

Do you think there could be any retroactive changes...I'm assuming that if a
task which is 100% done and took 5 days will stay that way, not change to
reflect the new calendar.

Completed tasks will not be altered. In progress and un-started tasks
will. I am sure you have already thought of this, but this is the
kind of thing a broadcast message to the PMs and perhaps to the users
is in order for a change like this. Not to mention working an extra
hour a day :)

THanks Mark. I've had extensive discussions with the Project and Department
managers, they are eager to make the change....I'm just concerned about
unintended consequences!

I'll be testing it in my Development environment of course.
