I'm helping my son install frontpage on his computer - 2000 - but I don't
see any IIS in his control panel under the Adm Tools - how does he get that,
and does he need it?

Is the computer Windows 2000 or are you installing FrontPage 2000 ??

IIS is installed from the Operating system disk, not as part of FrontPage.

You can use FrontPage for creating maintaining disk based webs and you can publish to a
remote server and don't need IIS installed. You just can't test any of the FrontPage
functions that use the server extensions until you publish to a server that has them.

A disk based web is one that lives in a folder in C:\My Documents\My Webs or just simply
lives in a folder on C:\

XP Home does not come with or support IIS
- he doesn't need it and can work w/ local Disc based webs or online server based webs

what operating system are you using? You have to have Window 2000 and up to run
IIS - it's included in Windows 2000 or on Win9x operating systems the Personal
Web Server (came with FP 98) should be OK only except is Windows Millennium it
sort of misses out both ends: IIS and PWS doesn't/won't work on Windows ME.

He's running Win XP home edition - and so far everything looks like its
working - we're running the websites under /My Webs - haven't gotten it to
publish to the site yet though..also, he's running it on a lap top- and the
site is really pretty big - flash and all...so it might just be a time out
thing... I want him to upgrade to 2002 or 2003 - as I'm running 2002 on xp
pro and the difference between 2002 and 2000...oh my I forgot! :) ... How I
love that close ftp resemblance in 2002 :)

still having problems - he can't publish from his windows xp home edition -
we looked at where the fp was installed - and clicked on the fpsrvwin.exe
which didn't follow the outline on
http://www.msfrontpage.net/fp/noserver.htm - so I told him to go into the
control panel/administrative tools and we're confused now...the error he
gets is no server onport 80 - how do we get this corrected? a walk thru
would really help :)

thanks!

He upgraded to fp 2003 and installed it - but gets the same error - can not
find destination (or whatever that error is) it can't find the website -

what are we doing wrong?
