New Laptop with 2007 Trial. Already own 2003

I own MS Office Standard Edition 2003. Recently, I purchased a laptop that
had 2007 previously installed. Now that the trial period is about over, I've
decided I'd like to upgrade to 2007. Would I need to uninstall my 2007 and
install my 2003 just to upgrade to 2007? This wouldn't be an issue except
I'd rather not lose my e-mails.

Please respond in non-techie language. I can understand most...but I'm far
from an expert.

Thanks so much!

First purchase and upgrade version of the Office 2007 edition you prefer.

Second uninstall the trial verison of Office 2007 you have installed.
Unistalling Office {any version} does not normally delete data files. Just
to be extra safe copy your Outlook.pst file to a safe location. You can find
the location of outlook.pst by opening Outlook 2007 and going to Tools,
Options, Mail Setup tab and clicking on the Data Files button. You may also
want to copy achieve.pst which is the history file for outlook.pst. The safe
location can be anwhere that you can recall the location. You will likely
not need these files.

Install your new Office 2007. When you are asked for a qualifying product,
insert you Office 2003 installation disk in the drive and browse to the
drive so Office 2007 installation can find it. Office 2003 will not install.
When Office 2007 verifies that you have a qualifying product, remove the
Office 2003 disk and insert the Office 2007 disk.

Your Office 2003 Standard edition is a qualifying product for any edition of
Office 2007 that has an upgrade version not just the Standard Edition.

Save all your files including the *.pst. Uninstall the 2007 Office Trial. Purchase
the Office Upgrade version of your choice, Start the Office 2007 installation from
the Upgrade version. When it asks for a qualifying product after you start the
Office 2007 installation then insert the Office 20O3 Standard for proof.
