New laptops - PWA/Issues - crashes IE

Background:

We have a few new HP laptops. We are a Project Server 2003 shop. All running
XP SP2 and Internet Explorer 6.0 and pop-up blocker is not running. Double
checked and PC has MDAC 2.8 SP1 (latest release). We use PWA extensively for
tasks, issues, and risks.

Problem:

Open IE and connect to PWA home page no problem. Select Issues and I see the
list of projects/issue databases. Click on any project issue database and IE
immediately crashes.

As an administrator I connected to PWA on same machine and I have the same
problem. So I then tried getting there a different way. I select Admin, then
Manage Sharepoint sites, then select the site and I then see the sharepoint
site home page for this project. If I click issues here I am able to
see/display the list of issues for the project without a problem. Just can't
get there using the Home Page>Issues>Click on Project route.

Anyone else seen this?

Matt:

Check port security in the firewall settings, also make sure the discussion
bar is turned off in IE and that there are not add-in toolbars. HP sometimes
adds stuff like the google bar, etc.

Thanks Gary. I just nailed it. Warning to others. HP is installing a tool
called "Credential Manager". On a new HP PC or Laptop if you go into Control
Panel > Security Center > you'll see a new choice called "Credential
Manager". This is not something that comes with windows XP although it sure
looks like it. I couldn't find a way to configure it to work so I went into
Remove/Add Programs and uninstalled "HP Credentials Manager", rebooted and
vioala, problem solved.

Hope this helps others...
