New mail icon

In Outlook, is there a way to turn off the closed envelope
icon that shows for new mail. Sometimes i'll show 2 or
three unopen envelope icons when I do not have any
unopened mail.
Please help.

Only one envelope can show up there. When you move your mouse over it do the
disappear? If so they were left over from an Outlook process not closed
properly.
