New mail notification envelope no longer appears in Outlook 2003

Ive been using Outlook 2003 for around 2 months. all of a
sudden the envelope that appears in the bottom corner no
longer appears when i receive a new mail. have checked the
tick box in tools/options etc, and its ticked.

Does anyone have any ideas

Are you running Windows XP? If yes, is the operating system's task bar
settings set to hide the icon?
