New mail notification won't play?

Hi:

I've searched everywhere, but I can't seem to find a solution to this
problem. Basically, my new mail notification is set up properly (in Windows
and in Outlook), but for some reason, when I get new mail upon startup of
Outlook, the notification sound doesn't play. It plays when I send myself an
email and click 'Send / Receive' manually, but not upon startup of Outlook.
I'd turn off auto-send/receive, but I can't find the option. However, I'd
prefer to get this problem fixed properly - so that the new mail notification
plays upon receiving all mail. Can anyone help me to figure this out?
