NEW MS Office 2008 for Mac on NEW MacBookcrashes on launch - Help!

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

Every application on my new Office:Mac 2008 Home/Student edition on a brand new MacBook is not working. It had a few days going strong then ceased launching and entered an error reporting loop. Everything I've researched says its probably due to older Office files, but there are none. Since I'm new to using Macs (unfortunately, not Microsoft) I'm hoping there is someone to help me out there.

Strategies I've Tried:
- Remove Office & reinstall, with & without restarts
- Locate any word docs & delete (only application I have used thus far)
- Updating to v.12.2

Be sure to get the 12.2.1 update, it fixes some issues with XML files. It's
a small bug fix for 12.2.0.

Testing in a new User will quickly tell you if the problem is system wide or
if it¹s your User¹s folder that contains the problem.

Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in Accounts. Switch to the
New User by logging out/in or use Fast User Switching. Test Word in this new
clean environment.

Does it work? If yes, then there is a problem in your User's folder. If no,
then we need to look at your OS install and your Office install.

Let us know what your test shows.

Tip: when updating Office, all Microsoft applications including the hidden
daemons must be quit. Easy way is to Log Out, Log in and hold down the Shift
key. This disables all Login Items. RESTART after running updater.

Cheers and Welcome to Mac! I have a few tips and links posted to help new
users here:
