New Printer problems

F

Fustrated

I purchased an HP Photosmart 8250 Printer. I was assured that it would work
with all Microsoft programs including Publisher.
Guess what - I have spent all day with HP technical support and it still
won't work. Publishers envelope orientation and the printer are opposite.
I think I will be taking the printer back. It also has a pretty lame paper
tray.
Can someone suggest to me a printer. I don't do many photos, mostly
brochures, letters, envelopes etc.
I need help soon
Thanks

I have the same printer, works for me...

In print setup:
Paper/Quality tab, click custom... Type 4.125 width, 9.5 length. Type a name,
save, okay out.
Type a new Quick Set name, save.
Effects tab, Select your Quick Set name, it should default to actual size.
On the finishing tab, select landscape.

In Publisher's page setup, click custom, Publisher should default to your
printer settings.

Look at your lame tray, the envelope should be face down with the flap on the
left.

HP's feed is different because the sheets feed in at the front and are
returned to the front, unlike most other printers that feed from the back..
there is nothing wrong with the printer at all..

I'll take a bottom loading HP printer over any other top-loading brand.

I am not to concerned about top loading at this time. I haven't had time to
try Marys solution yet, but will do that in the morning. I just want to be
able to print envelopes from Publisher in an efficient manner.
I have had HP printers before, and have been satisfied, but I am concerned
about the paper tray being very fragel (sp). When you change papers all the
time, I wonder if it will hold up.
Any comments. I really do want to keep this printer

The tray is okay. I agree it is lame. The colors are very good, makes up for the
lame tray.
The number 10 envelope template that is built-in does not work, every time I try
to use it, a message comes across about it being a label and it cannot be
printed landscape.
This is the reason for the custom setup.

Agreed that the trays lack the rigidity of the old CM500's, but they seem to
stand up to use ok.. HP are still the best printers for home/home office
use..

I had a loan Canon 4400 for a while.. I wanted to do single sheet printing..
the Canon insisted on attempting to feed anything up to five sheets through
at a time.. it was good quality paper too.. HP's Bright White..

Hi Mike,
I agree... My LaserJet is very old now (LJ5000), still the best printer we've
ever owned. It needs a new feed mechanism for the duplex unit,
www.fixyourownprinter.com sent me the part with a nifty CD explaining the steps.
I haven't the nerve to try.

I will agree with you guys about HP printers being the best and I like the
individual ink cartrigas (sp) in this. BUT - I did what you said Mary and I
think I got the properties fixed in the printer set up. Made more sense that
my conversations with HP. Now When I am in Publisher's page set up and
clicked custom, it didnt deffault to the printer settings. I tried to do a
custom Envelope size but the printer readout says that the paper is to small.
I think I am on the right track anyway.

If you answer and I don't respond, I am going to be gone, but really want to
get this fixwed, so don't forget me.
Thanks

I typed my HP 5150 printer model into the box on that website.. it told me
to trade it in for a Canon 4400.. lol..

Winter is now approaching and there will be more than a few days when indoor
activities have it over outdoor pursuits.. armed with your CD and Home Depot
printer fixing tools, I feel sure that you will have it up and running in no
time at all..

I spent way to much time with this problem with no results. Just so you know
I solved the problem by returning the printer and getting an Epson. I know
that it is slower and costs more to print, but at least it works.
Thanks for the help anyway.
