new project calendar not working?

Jesse

I use MS Project 2003 and Project Server 2003.

I want to make the week between Christmas and New Years as non-working
time...so I copied the base calendar to Project Calendar, made the days
between Chrismas and New Years non-working, and saved the new Project
Calendar. Then I went in Project Information and changed the project calendar
to the new Project Calendar. But I still have tasks starting and ending on
the new non-working days between Christmas and New Years.....what am I doing
wrong?

Hi Jesse,

I am not terribly familiar with Project Server, but one of the things I
would check is if you resources are using the new project calendar (the
one you specified in Project Information) as their base calendar.

Look at the Resource sheet and make sure the resources are using the
same calendar as their base. If the resource's base calendar is the
old, unmodified calendar, they are still available to work on the days
between Christmas and New Years.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Thanks Julie. If I set a resource to use the same calendar as the project how
do I change an individual resource calendar. What I mean is that I don't want
any work schedule on the project between Christmas and New Years for any
resource.....and I want to not schedule any work for an individual resource
who's on vacation from 12/1 - 12/15. How can I meet the needs to not schedule
work for everyone...and also not schedule work for individual resources. This
is the first time I've tried to do this....so I'm in a learning phase :)

Hi Jesse,

If you double click on the resource's name in the Resource Sheet view,
you will open the Resource Information for the specific resource.

On the Working Time tab, select 1 Dec through 15 Dec and select the
Nonworking time option button. That will set those dates as nonworking
for the specific resource.

If you have set the Base calendar for the to the same calendar as the
project, and set 25 Dec through 1 Jan as nonworking, all of the
resources with that calendar as their base calendar will have those days
as nonworking automatically.

Again, if you are using Project Server, you need to have the access
rights to any resource in the Enterprise Resource pool to be able to
make changes.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Don't worry about the "learning phase" part -- we're more than happy to
answer questions you have as they come up. :)

Jesse:

Is there a specific reason why you didn't simply modify the standard
calendar?
