New Project Server

MAT

Hello..
In our compny we have a test-project-server (normal PC). For a few months i
tested and customised MS Project-server. we have some of the Projects in the
server. I created a lot of views, enterprise fields, portfolio cubes, groups,
ressources ..... i changed a lot of settings. In a few days we will get our
new server. I have to transfer all data to it.
What ist the best way for the transfer without any lost of the data.
Thx

MAT:

Download the Project Server Disaster Recovery Guide which will provide you
with a lot of information on how to do this. On the Project Server side of
things, it's pretty much as simple as restoring a backup of the database on
the new machine, but SharePoint migration is more complex.

1) Disaster recovery guide (as suggested by Dale) is first step. Download it
at:

Project Server 2003 Disaster Recovery Guide
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...8e-a659-4705-bb95-6bf9a8934094&DisplayLang=en
or

2) If you have been using Sharepoint sites for project then make sure to
move the Sharepoint database as well. Then use Microsoft Windows SharePoint
Services Migration Tool (WSSMigr.exe) from:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...05-5635-40db-adbe-e13ab8684a60&displaylang=en
or

3) I think moving project db moves all the views & Enterprise Template.
(Verify this in the Disaster recovery guide). If not then you can backup &
move both easily. Let me know if you have any question.

I would run this on a virtual machine using VMware ESX. They have a
mechanism called P2V (Physical 2 Virtual) that migrates a physical machine to
a virtual machine.

See www.vmware.com for more information.
