New task creation

Elsa L.

Hello,
Could anyone clarify me what am I doing wrong please:
I have a project which owner is the user PMA. This user belongs to the
"project managers" default PS2007 group. When PMA tries to create a new task
using PWA (My Tasks -> New -> Task) he is getting the following error:
"You have no projects available for new task creation. "
My thought that because he belongs to "Project Managers" group he has access
to category My Projects which have "Create New Task and Assigment" permission
allowed. The category My Projects has "The User is the Project Owner or the
User is the Status Manager on assignments within that Project" checked in the
Projects that the user can see...

Please can anyone tell me what is wrong?
Thank you in advance,
Elsa

I have verified in the past that this category rule "The User is the Project
Owner or the User is the Status Manager on assignments within that Project"
does not work as expected in many cases for the category rules. I believe
it to be a bug in the new 2007 security system.

I have verified that with these options set as you described, I cannot
change the owner to the user and even if I change a task to have the user as
the "Status Manager" and publish the plan, this is not sufficient enough for
the user to have the ability to create a new task on that project.

A workaround here would be to add the user to the project team and publish
the plan again. This will then allow that project to show up in the New Task
page for that user.

Thank you very much Jonathan, you have been a big help latelly :)
I add the project manager to the team and he can now create new taks using
PWA.
The other problem that you mention related with "cannot change the owner to
a user belonging to project manager group" I had solve this (with some advice
from Dale) by changing the permissions "Save to project server" to allow of
category My Organization for the group Project managers.
Like you, I am convince that there is a bug somewhere in the new 2007
security system.

I do not think that this is a bug or workaround. This is by design. The user
must at least be on the project team to propose new tasks through PWA. The
assumption is that if the person has status manager rights or pm rights,
that this is a very silly way for that type of user to add a new task to the
plan. A pm or status manager can simply open the plan to add tasks.
