New to Entourage...have a couple of questions

Hi All,

I am new to the world of MAC, and I had a couple of questions on Entourage.

I set it up last night and it is working correctly. I am getting my e-mails and I was able to port over all my e-mails from Outlook 2007. The questions I have are:

1. Everytime I open Entourge, all my e-mail messages are open. I keep highlighting them all and then hit "Collapse All" and it collapses them, but then when I reopen the program they are all expanded again. Am I doing something wrong?

2. Is there a security preference that I need to check so that if I get an e-mail that has images embedded into it, they will show up in the body of the e-mail, and I don't have to actually click that message at the top that asks if I want to show images.

Thats about all I have right now. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I'm using E 2004, which doesn't have a "collapse" command, so I'm not sure
what "Collapse All" is supposed to do. Do you perhaps mean "minimize"
instead of "collapse". If so, then CLOSE the windows (see File menu), don't
minimize them.

As for the second item, in Entourage Preferences, under Security, check
"Automatically download pictures from my Address Book contacts." Then make
sure that all your regular contacts are in Entourage's address book.

Ed,

Thanks for the reply.

Collapse all in 2008 will take all your e-mails in your box and collapse them, so if you have multiple e-mails from one perosn, they are not all listed out.

Secondly, I may have been a little vague with the embedded pics in the e-mail. What I actually meant was how do I set it so if I get an e-mail from a company and its a rich e-mail, for example I get e-mails from hotels in Las Vegas and they are rich e-mails, but each time I read the message, there is a warning at the top that says Entourage prevented the pictures from downloading, and if I want to see them click here. So when I click it, I can then see the e-mail as it was intended. In Outlook 2007 on my old PC that was a security setting that I had to change.

Thanks

Everytime I open Entourge, all my e-mail messages are open.

Hold Option key and click on the red close button.

It sounds like all your messages are open in their own window. If the above
does not solve the problem, could you post some screenshots?

You can post a screenshot link using a service like ImageShack. ImageShack
is an easy-to-use free media hosting service. It can be used to upload
images. Registration is not required in order to upload files.

When you get an e-mail from one of those hotels that does not display
pictures, select Add to Address Book from the Tools menu. Any future
messages from that hotel should display pictures.

Hope this helps.

Diane,

Ok so what I mean is this... When looking at my inbox, by default it always looks like this:

<http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3614/3345306313_ba469f5e29_o.jpg>

So everytime I go and open Entourage, I always go to View and "Collapse All." When I do that it makes the inbox look like this:

<http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3379/3346146924_c580712ed5_o.jpg>

This is how I want it to look everytime I open Entourage...but I can't find the setting to keep it that way..

So if anyone has any info on how I can get my inbox column to look the way it does in the 2nd picture all the time, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

So if anyone has any info on how I can get my inbox column to look the way it
does in the 2nd picture all the time, I would greatly appreciate it.

Pictures are great. I was totally misunderstanding your problem and the fix
is easy.

In the middle column, at the top, you'll see Arrange by. Click on this
header and select Edit. Create a custom arrangement and select collapsed as
one of the options. Currently what you are seeing is Expanded.

I have lists where I like to toggle between showing all and collapsed so I
have arrangements for both views. See this page for help.

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/get_started/thread.html>

My current arrangement is set like this for collapsed:

Group items by: Subject
Sort groups by Sent Newest on top
Sort items within groups by Conversation A on Top
Default display: Collapsed.

I see you also asked on the Entourage Help Blog. MVPs work in both the
newsgroups (this mactopia forum interface) and on the blog. You only need to
ask in one place to get help. The newsgroup is the best for help and the
blog is best for discussing the articles.

Glad it worked!! I guess it's not obvious so I should add that one to my
"not obvious" posts. You might be interested in these:

The thing was that in Outlook on my PC, once I collapsed the view, it stayed like that, even after I closed and reopened the program...

Thanks again!!!!

One of the major sources of frustration with Entourage: expecting it to work
like Outlook or Outlook Express. It doesn't, nor, as far as I can tell, does
MS have any interest making it do so, even though that's a significant
client expectation. Sigh!
