New to Excel

Hey all, I'm sorta new to excel, and I was trying to create a drop down
list box. So i made the cells with the data in them I want, and I put
a background color on them., when I actualy create the drop down in the
cell, I have the words appear, but not the color, can anyone tell me if
there is a way to keep the cell formating.

There's nothing built into excel for this kind of thing.
