New to MS Office for the MAC

When I open a new office document it contains the text of a document I
have previously created.

If you were using Windows, deleting the normal.dot file would be the
fix. It may be the same for Macs. You could ask your question in the NG
for MACs at "msnews.microsoft.public.mac.office"
