New twist on missing menu in Word

R

Reenie

Just out of curiousity. My Edit menu disappeared from Word last week. I ran winword.exe/a and the Edit menu reappered after reopening Word. However, the next day, the Edit menu had disappeared again. I can delete the Data registry key or the Data or Settings value within the Data key. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi Reenie,

One of the best option to make sure Edit menu is working is to Customize
the Tool bar.
To Customize the Toolbar...

1.) Click on Tools -> Customize, CLick on Command tab.
2.)Highlight Edit, Click on rearrange Commands.
3.) Choose the menu bar as Edit. and Click on Reset. Highlight Normal and
Click OK.This will reset your Edit Menu. and also make sure we have
selected the Normal.dot

Please let me know has this helped you...

Thank you,

Raghu...

I thought about that, but... in my Tools>Customize>Command tab, I highlight Edit, but
1.) "Click on rearrange Commands":There is no "rearrange commands" button or option.
2.) "Choose the menu bar as Edit." I'm not sure what this means.
3.) "Click on Reset": There is no Reset button
4.) The only options on this tab are: Categories list; Commands list; Description button (for commands); Modify Selection button with drop down: this is grayed out and nothing I click on will make it active; Save In drop -down (normal.dot or Doc 1 are available); Keyboard button; Close button

I am using Word2002 (10.3416.3501) SP-1.
Thanks so much for replying and I hope the info ablove helps you figure out how to help me; I am stumped!

Hi Reenie,

I am glad to know that this worked fine.
Next time i would request you not to delete normal.dot. You may lose the
customizations that you've stored in normal.dot. It holds macros, styles,
AutoText, some AutoCorrect, keyboard assignments (which you can't move
without a special utitility), and custom toolbars. Instead, rename it
normalold.dot or something similar.

If you delete the Word Data registry key, Word resets several options to
their default settings, such as the most recently used file list on the
File menu and many settings that you customize in the Options dialog box.

Thank you,

Raghu...
