New Window (Navigation Pane) Opens Behind OR OL2007 always on top

P

Peter Edwards

Feeling pretty frustrated. I've actually done a reinstall which temporarily
fixed the problem, but it just started occuring again (MS Updates?/who knows?)

ANYWAY, the problem I have is:

OL2007 on my Win XP system is now opening new navigation windows (right
click Calendar, Contacts, etc) BEHIND the parent window. It didn't do this
previously. I guess an alternative way of thinking about this is that the
OL2007 main screen always stays on top.

No changes to video drivers, no obvious problems with any other aspect of
the install. But very frustrating. Latest Service Packs (SP1 MSO
(12.0.6320.5000)), And Shift + [x] (close window) doesn't do anything to
resolve the problem.

Help would be very gratefully appreciated.

Cheers
Peter

Dear Robert - fabulous, absolutely fabulous. Thanks ever so much for your
quick reply. I had genuinely spent around 20 hours over several days and
weeks trying to solve my problem by doing internet searches and checking
knowledgebases. All to no avail. At my wits end I posted here... and bam, you
provided the solution with 21 minutes. Seriously, thanks very much. I'm
sending a truckload of good karma your direction.

OK, so the the problem is, indeed, an addin.

And it turns out that for me the problem addin is the Microsoft Office
Genuine Advantage Add-in!

After methodically disabling and enabling each addin it turns out that the
Genuine Advantage Addin seems to be associated with new navigation pane
windows opening behind the parent/existing window (contrary to what is usual
behaviour in OL2007).

Of course I now wonder what, if any, effect disabling this addin will have?
My software is certainly genuine.

Again, many thanks for your speedy solution to what was a really frustrating
problem.

Cheers
Pete

Start-> Run; outlook.exe /safe

If not, your issues is likely to be caused by an addin you installed;

You're welcome! :)

Sometimes it helps just disabling and then enabling it again and then you
can run with all addins enabled again.
Other times it helps to rename extend.dat to .old when Outlook is closed.
See http://www.msoutlook.info/question/19

If that doesn't work, I don't think disabling the addin will have any direct
negative consequences.
