New Word 2000 document

Each time I open a new word document a grid appears on
the screen and a picture also. I can delete the picture
when I select it and delete but the grid is still visible
in page layout view. The grid is not present if I print
the page. Kids have managed to do this so I don't know
how it was done. Anyone help me out there?

That's it - blame the kids

From the drawing toolbar, select draw > grid > uncheck display gridlines.
