Newbie probs with Excel 2007

Hi to the forum, which I am visiting for the first time. I have done
a fair bit of Excel programming over the years and was still using
windows 98 and excel 2003 on a machine with only 1G Ram until recently
when I upgraded my computer (quad core processor, 2 G Ram ) with
Windows XP and Excel 2007
I have written a program that includes a map of australia as an xy
graph , using lat and lon coordinates. I have about 70,000 data pairs
to plot the map, but it was just impossibly slow, so I cut down the
resolution by taking only every 8th point, but it is still hopelessly
slow. It takes ages even to just try to copy and paste a column of
numbers and when I run the program which plots a line between 2
selected places of given coordinates the map dissapears and comes back
like about 2 or 3 minutes later. I never had this problem with Excel
2003, but unfortunately I dont have that anymore to go back to.
I thought Excel 2007 was supposed to be way superior and allow you
more rows and columns, but whats the use if it is so slow. Is there a
fix for this problem? Any help appreciated

Thanks
Terry
