Newbie question-differences btw Project Web Access and Professiona

Hi,

I am new to MS Project and would like to know the differences between
Project Web Access and Project Professional?

I know Professional is a standalone edition and also able to connect to
Project server to work collaboratively. While Project Web Access is the web
app to allow users connect to Project server to work collaboratively. I have
checked their features on MS web sites but there are not much information in
regard to the comparison of Professsional edition and Web Access, such as
what Professional can do but Web Access cannot. Anyone has idea about this?
Could anyone share ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Pakeon

Project Web Access allows you to VIEW data about your project via a web
browser. It has VERY limited capabilities to edit project data (primarily the
Project level custom fields.

Project Professional is used to CREATE, EDIT and UPDATE project plans. It
allows you to create tasks, dependencies, assign resources etc.

Project Pro is necessary to create the project plans and manage them.
Project Web Access is used to allow other people to view them and to
aggregate information about all the projects stored on the server.

Neither of these applications allow simultaneous editing of projects.

Jack,

That means, for cost saving, the project owner will use Project Pro to
create/edit/update the project plan, and the others can use Web Access to
update the progress, is this correct?

By the way, could you tell me more about the Project level custom fields
because I am not familiar with Project.

Thanks in advance,

Pakeon
