I'm using Outlook 2003 with Windows XP. The first time
you attempt to access the news server, you must first
configure the 'Go' menu with the news option. To do
this, you click the toolbar options on the standard
toolbar, then select Add or Remove Buttons, then select
Customize. Next click the Commands tab, then choose Go
in the left categories pane. Next scroll down until you
find news. Then click and drag the News button and drop
it on the Go menu. From there, everything is automatic
(subscribing, etc).

That's what you're supposed to do....this is what I
actually did: I accomplished all the above actions to
the letter, except I dragged the command from the web
toolbar versus the standard toolbar.

The problem I now have is the 'News' option does not
appear in the Go menu at all, nor can I reattempt to
repeat the above actions, because that command is no
longer present in either the standard or web toolbars. So
I have now way of getting to my newsgroups.

I've attempted to reset the Go menu and I've ensured the
Go menu is completely expanded. It's just not
there...any help, short of reinstalling Outlook?

To get the News command back, go back to the Programs tab in Control Panel |
Internet Options and change the default newsreader to Outlook Express. If
OE prompts you to make it your default newsreader the next time you launch
it, click the "Don't ask me again" box and then click the No button.

You may need to reset the menu or toolbar using Tools, customize.
