Next release of Project Server - any speculation?

I've heard that next version of Project Server will be called P14 (skipping
P13) and that it will include Proj Portfolio Server features. Would anyone
care to speculate the odds of p14 being released within the next 12 months?

I'm trying to give a customer decent advice on when to move forward with a
PPS deployment. If the availability of P14 is near term (6-12 mo) and it
indeed includes PPS, I would recommend they wait.

Obviously there is no way to really know for sure. But I would appreciate
hearing from those who have an opinion.

My guess is that the odds of a P14 release within a year are very low. What
do you think?

Of course the folks on this forum with the best information on this
are under NDA, so they can't contribute...

Unless there is a significant change of policy at Microsoft, P14 will
come out with the next version of Office. (And Office Server, I
suppose.) Again, unless there is a big change from previous versions:
the next version of Office will come out with a lot of fanfare, a long
beta period, and a lot of pre-release information to allow large
customers and partners to prepare. I suspect the public build up will
start about a year in advance of the product release. We will be
hearing reports about betas more than six months ahead of the release.

The build up hasn't started yet, so I think the chances of a release
in the next 12 months are less than one in a hundred.

There appears to be some sort of evidence that the next release of Office is
in 2009

http://blogs.zdnet.com/microsoft/?p=1437

So it would be reasonable to expect a new version in the next 1.5 years. If
it were 6 months you would be hearing a lot more about it.

Of course, you never know, and even Microsoft does not know when it will be
released. Developing new software is not that predictable, especially when
you bundle all of the different applications (word, powerpoint, excel,
project, sharepoint etc.) together. A slip in one of the core technologies
can impact all of the others.

If you have a customer who needs that technology to run their business over
the next year, then you should probably support them in that regard. The
lessons they learn about managing a portfolio will pay off in easier adoption
of the newer version. In my opinion, the technology won't be the most
difficult part of putting successful portfolio management in place.
