NK2 file becomes zero size

Does anyone has any idea?
Hi all,

My boss likes the autocomplete features (in Outlook 2003) very much.
However, the .N2K became zero byte suddenly yesterday. He asked my t
"recover" the email addresses in it.

What he has done yesterday was downloaded the address book from th
exchange server; but I do not think it was the cause of the problem.
have read other articles that the .N2K file hold only 1000 entries.
What would be the result if the 1001st entry is being added? Will i
be first in first out; or start from an empty file?

Besides, I would like to ask if there is any way to recover it if it i
zero byte.

Thanks very muc

Not really. You haven't provided enough information. I've seen no
descriptions of an NK2 file suddenly "becoming 0 byte" all by itself. I'm
sure there is more to this story.
In general NK2 files are quite sturdy and rarely if ever get corrupted. This
would be a first. Profiles, on the other hand, are very fragile and often
get corrupted. A corrupted profile might well create a new NK2 file which
would be 0 bytes. But the old NK2 file would not be destroyed. Search your
hard drive for all NK2 files.

Hi,

I agree that anything with a contact folder would have nothing to do with
the NK2 file. Once the 1000 entries are in the file, I believe that the
1001 entry overwrites that 1000th entry. I tested this some time ago but
frankly forget what we had discovered on this.

We wrote a utility that will let you open, edit and export NK2 data. We
also recommend that once open, you export the data, then import it into a
contact folder. Use Tab delimited on the export, then bring into an Excel
Spreadsheet to review and verify entries. Lastly, import the info. into a
contact folder and delete NK2 entries.

OL does not wipe out the file and start over again. If there is an apparent
problem, try re-creating his profile. Delete profile name, then reboot.
Then, open Outlook again and create a new profile.

If you'd like you can send his NK2 file to us and we can verify if it is
corrupt or not. Do you know how to find the files?

Are utility can find it automatically for you, but it is based on the
profile name. Our utility can be found at www.dcs-imaging.com/products.htm.
If you're not interested in that, it's no problem, just send me an e-mail at
the sales address on the web site and I'll help you out.
