No 'Accept, Decline, Tentative' bar appears in meeting invite emails

Running Entourage 08 on Leopard and email is via a corporate exchange
server. When I receive a meeting invite via email no 'Accept, Decline,
Tentative' bar appears in the email. Opening the email makes it appear
on my calendar, and the senders, as 'tentatively accepted' but I can't
accept on decline. If I click on the meeting in calendar the Accept,
Decline, Tentative icons on the toolbar are grey and inactive.

Any ideas on how to fix this problem?

Entourage won't accept meetings tentatively for Exchange accounts. Check
your account with Outlook to see if you possibly have a server side rule
tentatively accepting for you.

Hope this helps!

Really? Are you saying I can't tentatively accept a meeting someone
invites me to or that meetings I create folks can't accept
tentatively?

I accept meetings tentatively all of the time using Entourage 2008 and
my corporate Exchange account.

That's not what I said. ;-)

*Entourage* won't accept tentatively. Or maybe I should say, "Entourage
won't automatically accept tentatively."

A user can accept tentatively on his own.

I believe that's a mistake and I'll report it to the Microsoft folks.
Just tested before posting back and that does *not* happen with my Exchange
calendar. (Or maybe I'm just special. ;-) )

I tested that many times myself, indeed it does not work as specified in the help file... (does not auto accept tentatively).

I realize this is an old thread, but responding for the benefit of those who like me are still struggling with this issue. The behavior is different depending on the version of Exchange. If you're on Exchange 2007, Entourage *will* tentatively accept invites. Older versions will not -- which makes it impossible to accept invites from Exchange users fail from smart devices. Interestingly enough, you *can* accept invites from non-Exchange users just fine.
