Situation:
W2003 domain, Clinets Win XP, Office XP
The folder %username%\Desktop has been redirected (via Registry Key) to
\\server\share\%username%\desktop
Problem:
Users are not able to open or save an office document on the desktop from
any office application. It´s always "Access dennied". Even when the user,
tricky as he is, uses an UNC path
(\\server\share\username\desktop] he gets "Access denied". This is not just
a single user problem, but domain wide. Of course, the users have full access
to their desktops. All permissions were double-checked.
When using other applications, access is possible. You can access the
desktop when using Windows Explorer and when double-clicking an Office
document on the desktop it opens, you can edit and save it again.
The error only happens when using the built-in "Office-Explorer" which is
used in the Office file dialogs.
A short time solution is deleting the key "Desktop" in
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Common\Open
Find\Places\StandardPlaces, but the "Desktop" key reappears after some time
(no reason found) and the access problem is back again.
Does anybody have any clue ?
