no access to menu or toolbar

I currently use MS Office 2000 - XP platform.
2 Problems:
1- MS Word won't allow access or display dropdown menu or tool bar.
I get a blank page therefore can't bring menu - view toolbars

2- When I open word, monitor display changes to large view similar to safe
mode display.

Thanks, in urgent need to fix this .... problem.
