No Blank Document When Opening Word 2000

One of my work colleagues can't get rid of a MS Word 2000 problem. Every time
they open up Word, they continually see a previously typed and saved document
and not a normal blank document. It is the same previously typed and saved
document every time as well. I suspect it's a problem with the normal.dot
template, but I don't know the procedure to fix it. Any solutions out there?

From the FAQ:

28. My blank document has text in it - an old letter, etc. See
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/AppErrors/BlankDocNotBlank.htm.
