No colour when editing formula

I have a simple question, which I'm sure is easy to resolve!

Normally, when I double click on a formula within a cell, Excel
highlights (in colour) the cells which are referenced by the formula.
The problem is, now when I double click on the formula, it just
highlights the cells in grey. Any idea how I can change this?

It occurs in both Excel 2000 and 2002

Chris,
Go to

Tools>Options>Edit

and check "Edit directly in cell"

or another option is to click once on the cell and then click in the formula bar instead of double clicking the cell. If the formulas are large it can be useful to not use the edit in cell feature.

Good Luck,
