No Cursor Back

My wife recently decided to make a hotkey for a French
character that she uses regularly. Unfortunately, she
decided to use the "cursor back" key for it. I removed
the hotkey -- pressing cursor left no longer results in a
big E with an acecnt mark -- but I cannot move the cursor
left, either. I am forced to resort to the mouse, which
wastes a lot of time.

How do I restore my cursor back key without re-installing
Word?

Hi John

Assuming you mean the left-arrow key rather than the backspace key, do this:

- Open the Tools > Customize dialog and click the Keyboard button.
- Make sure the "Save changes in" box says "Normal.dot".
- In the Categories list, select "All Commands".
- In the Commands list, select "CharLeft".
- Click in the "Press new shortcut key" box.
- Press the left-arrow key. The word "Left" should appear.
- Click the Assign button at the bottom of the dialog.
- Click the Close button in each dialog.

When you shut down Word, you may be asked whether to save changes to
Normal.dot; say yes.
