No Exchange Server, no Outlook task working?

I am using Outlook2003, access email from an IMAP linux box.
I can send an task to somebody, but the task email they got is only a
plain email with two attachment.
There are no where to accept the task.
Is Outlook task(maybe calender...) only working with MS Exchange
Server?

What message format are you sending the task request in? Rich Text Format is required - is the Linux server stripping the formatting?
