This is related to my posting "Cursor disappears WITHOUT using spaces". At the sametime that my cursor disappeared, the word count that is usually present at the bottom of the screen is now registering 0 words, despite the doc being 23 pages long.

Just check that you have not dropped into Publishing Layout View or Notebook
View?

Neither of them have a Word-count. Publishing Layout View has a different
cursor, which can be difficult to see, depending on your screen setup.

Hope this helps

Is it expressly displaying a zero or does it read as 0 of X? The feature
indicates at what word your insertion point is located.
