Please don't yell at the volunteers. We do this for the love of it, and we're
not getting paid for it.

Be realistic.... Access is a complex tool, takes months to get familiar with,
and years to master (if you ever can).

That's as silly as saying I want to speak French fluently by next week. If
the reason is, that you need to do something using access then ask specific
questions about that.

But that aside, can anyone recommend (or not recommend) a clear, practical
book for a raw beginner. Access For Dummies has proved disappointing to one
newsgroup contributer so how can a would-be learner get the info without
wasting his money.

I actually looked at Access for Dummies a few years back. I was already pretty
well versed in Access, but wanted to see how good (or how bad) it was.

I was surprised and generally favorably impressed with the book's writing. It
did a good job *for what it was written to do*. It would be very helpful, IMO,
to someone learning to USE an existing Access application: how combo boxes
work, what a subform is for, and so on.

It was not intended to, and would not, help very much if someone wanted to
*actually create* an Access database, beyond the simplest rudiments.
