no pictures in inbox preview pane

often I receive emails with some sort of pictures in
them. These are not attachments, but part of the email
page. They might be web-based pictures. These no longer
show up in the preview pane nor when I click on the
email.

How do i turn them on again?

What version of Outlook are you running? Does this also happen when you've
got your virusscanner/firewall/spamfilter disabled?
