no previewer installed - any ideas?

When I try to open some attachments the message "This file cannot be
previewed because there is no previewer installed for it. Browse for
previewers online."
Any ideas for a preferably free download previewer.

Depends what the file (suffix) is as to what previewer/software is required
to view it
