No prompt for Product key to convert from MS Office 2003 trial

Sudip

Hi,

I believe I am having a fairly strange problem. I bought a HP laptop that
came pre-installed with Office 2003 60-day trial. I believe its the Standard
Edition although the Product Key information on the back of the CD said that
its the Office 2003 Teacher and Student Edition.

In any case, I used the 60-day trial after which most features got disabled
(which is to be expected). I had uninstalled it, then installed MS Outlook
2003 and activated it using a product key I get from work.

Tonight I decided to activate the rest of Office since I had purchased MS
Office 2003 Teacher and Student which can be installed on 3 computers.
However, strange as it may sound, I am unable to get to a point where I am
prompted for the product key. I open MS Word and then go to Help->Activate.
There is a screen that explains that the trial has expired and that I should
get a 25-character product key and asks me to hit the Convert... button if I
want to activate. Once I do that, the only 3 options I see are : (1) Add or
Remove Features, (2) Reinstall or Repair and (3) Uninstall. I have tried all
3 options on all 4 products (Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook) and have
tried rebooting, uninstalling etc but no avail.

Any idea why this is happening and what I can do to activate this product?
The only thing that I have done recently is uninstall Norton Antivirus and
install MS Live OneCare system.

Any suggestions regarding how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Sudip

Uninstall the trial version and Outlook. Reboot and then install the purchased Students and Teachers Edition from your CD.
