no sound in entourage

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel Email Client: pop Since putting a clean install of snow leopard on my mac and reinstalling office 2008 i have a weird bug in entourage

after opening it will make the custom sound for new email (when applicable) but afterwards I get no sound notifications at all....

so no:
sound when emailclient is checking but no new mails
sound when sending mails
sound when receiving mails

I have checked the preferences but they are on (and they work when opening the app).

anyone familiar with this annoying bug?

Have you tried switching back to the default Microsoft Sound Set to see
those sounds work in all situations and then switch back to the custom set.

Sometimes strange behavior is due to corrupted preferences files.

Also check your Sound System Preferences to make sure the output device is
not being switched on you. I have a USB device as well as external speakers
and I've had the sound output flip on me from external speakers back to the
USB headphones. This not likely for you situation but something to check if
you have multiple sound output devices to choose from,

This is immediately after install so this relates to the standard sounds. the output is always on internal speaker i have no other option. it seems like a snow leopard bug. also see

So you have the latest updates:

Alert sounds were fixed in the 12.0.1 update. Be sure you have all Office
updates applied.

If you are fully patched then your problem is not the same as the one
described here.

This sounds like you did not update Office after re-installing. There was a
sound bug in the original release.

Check under About Entourage and see what version you have installed. You
should be 12.2.3....not 12.0.0.

You also need to delete the older Microsoft fonts.

Microsoft fonts to delete after installing Snow Leopard (includes help
deleting font caches)

Dear Diane and Bill, thank you for taking the time to guide me through this...

now solved it... I indeed dit not have the latest updates installed after the clean install. However somehow the mac updater kept on trying to install the english SP1 on my dutch version of office for mac... (dont ask me why)

after installing the dutch version of SP1 the auto update did pick up the subsequent update by itself and I now have entourage v, 12.2.3 so I think i am back up to date.

Just to say that I have exactly the same problem and everything is up to date.
Entourage 12.2.3
Snow Leopard 10.6.2
I made the Snow Leopard installation first with Office 2004 installed then updated to Office 2008 Home edition. Feeling like it was waste of money now.
The installed sound sets do not work and I have exactly the same problem as is described elsewhere.
I have also tried to create a new sound set with no success.
Pity really I miss the character of the old sound sets I created for Ent 2004, which were really easy to install!!!
