I made a slide show and added a sound (mp3) but the preview bar will move
but no sound .. My neighbour does his but mine has no sound

Exactly as he done his ..actually he can to my place and done it .. He went
Insert , then movie and sounds , then sound from file ... That put a speaker
on the first page ..The he right clicked on the speaker, then custom
animan.. .. with opened the right side of the screen .. Then he clicked on
the drop down bar and clicked on effect option ,,at the stop option he --
put 35 the total amount of slides .. exactly as his .. we checked all the
screens and no sound Then we clicked on Play and the long vertical bar moves
but no sound ,,, but on his it goes trough all the sides with music

I assume that other sounds on your system can be heard and your speakers are
working? What happens if you go to Start > Run and type mplay32.exe and then
open the MP3 in the player and click on the Play button? Does it play?
If not, then it is possible that a setting on your system has been modified by
some other software. Do you have Real Player installed? See section 3 of
http://www.soniacoleman.com/Tutorials/PowerPoint/multimedia.htm and at the end
of the section are tables of what your settings should look like. Do a careful
comparison. Are they identical, word for word?

If the file works in mplay32.exe but not in PPT, try the troubleshooting
steps here:

It says "troubleshooting video," but it should really say "troubleshooting
multimedia." (And yeah, sound would fall under the multimedia category.)

What software do your neighbor use? And what differences between you
about PC. If possible try PowerPoint2dvd app. It has a nice powerpoint
slideshow on DVD with backgound music, narration record,etc.
