Non-proprietary use of an Excel spreadsheet

Is it possible to run a spreadsheet even if you don't have Excel? I have a
program designed for use by my clients, most of whom are students and can't
afford Office I'm looking for a way for them to be able to use the
spreadsheet even if they don't have Excel.

You can use the free Excel viewer that allows you to view and
print, but not change, Excel workbooks. Download from

Another alternative is to use OpenOffice,
http://www.openoffice.org/, a free group of programs that
includes an (mostly) Excel-compatible spreadsheet program.
