Normal Document Template Error

Jenny

I just uninstalled and installed MS Word XP to attempt to
rid a problem I get every time I try to open and close a
Word Document. When I open a document, I get a warning
triangle and the message that: "word cannot open the
existing (normal)". I can still click "OK" and work on the
document. When getting out of MS Word, I get another
warning triangle saying: "Normal file already exists. Do
you want to replace the existing file?" I will click
on "no", but it still generates a "Save As" box and wants
me to create another template. This problem happens
everytime. Any suggestions to get rid of this? I already
attempted to modify the "normal" template which also does
not work..

Hi Jenny

It sounds like your Normal.dot is corrupt. Try renaming it and then opening
Word again. Word should try to create a new Normal.dot, which you can save
at the end of the session. If you have customizations in your old Normal.dot
you may be able to copy them using the Organizer - but if Word cannot open
the file at all that may not be possible.

Do not uncheck the 'Prompt to save Normal' - it's a very useful safety
feature!
