normal dot already exists error on saving

Everytime when I save a word file from word2002 I get the following messages

'The file normal.dot already exists. Do you want to rpelace exisitng file - I answer no and asked to save - again I decline then get
'do you want to replace existing file. Changes have been made that affect your global template normal.dot. Do you want to save those changes.
I answer no and it lets me out

I have tried installing the latest updates and deleted and re-installed office but cannot cure the problem

Hi all and thanks to Beth for usefull suggestions unfortunately none of which were applicable - for anyone in similar troubles I solved the problem by the obvious - replacing normal.dot with a back-up and the problem disappeared - I assume I had a corrupt normal.dot
