Normal.dot and TESpellChkTmp.doc

2 problems both interconnected:
1. I open up a Word file (only 1), work on it, save it and close Word.
2. I get a message asking me if I want to save the changes to Normal.dot
(which is only supposed to happen if 2 or more documents are open).
3. Once it starts it will happen every time I try to close Word until I
re-boot my computer.
4. Once I re-boot, I open up Word to find a "recovered" document called
TESpellChkTmp.doc. It is blank and I never save it.

This is an ongoing battle that doesn't seem to be affecting other computers
in our office. I am running Windows XP Pro with Office XP Pro and all updates
are downloaded and installed.

Any ideas?

I'm not sure what you mean by item 2: "I get a message asking me if I
want to save the changes to Normal.dot (which is only supposed to
happen if 2 or more documents are open)." A prompt to save Normal.dot
should occur when a change has been made regardless of the number of
documents you have open.

If you are encountering a prompt to save Normal.dot each time you exit
Word then the likely cause is an add-in, perhaps TESpellChkTmp.dot,
that is causing the problem. For more on how to troubleshoot this
issue take a look at this article:

If you rectify the initial problem but still encounter the prompt to
save Normal.dot only if two or more documents are open, then post back
and let us know since that is abnormal behavior as well.
