normal.dot automatically renamed to normal.dot.old in word 2002

Hi There,

I've written a script to automatically update normal.dot to a standard
template to all user profiles. It does this by copying from a network source
the normal.dot we want to use to the following directories:

C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates\

and

C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates\

The file is successfully copied there. However when logged in as the account
I run the script from (a domain account with local administrator privilges)
as soon as I start Microsoft Word the normal.dot I copied is renamed to
normal.dot.old and a default normal.dot is created. I searched the C:\ drive
including all hidden folders and can't find one the same, so it seems to have
been auto created.

I delete the normal.dot file created, and rename normal.dot.old to
normal.dot, and word opens, this time doesn't change the file, and we have
the template we want.

IF i log off and log on as a local administrator or different user account I
don't have this problem. (usually...although sometimes it still happens on
certain domain user accounts)

IF run this as local administrator the same thing happen, this time the
domain account with local admin works without require rename.

Can anyone please advise how to stop this happening?

I have all office applications closed when running this script.

I have searched Microsoft KEDB and google and there seems to that renaming
to .old is recommended if .dot file is corrupt, however in this case the .dot
file is not corrupt because as soon as renaming it back to .dot it works...

If you need any more info about what's going on please let me know!!!

Thanks...
