Normal.dot error, with other errors

I've been searching all over the place looking for a way
to fix this. . .

For the last month I can't open existing documents in
Word. It tells me "the file FILE_NAME is not available."

I can type up documents, but then can't open them.

Also, when I go to close the program. I get this
error "the file Normal already exists. Do you want to
replace the existing file?" If I choose no, the save box
still pops up and asks me to save. I hit cancle. I try to
close the program again and get this message "Changes have
been made that affect the global template, Normal. Do you
want to save those changes?" So I say no. Then it closes.

I've searched all over for the answer for this. I've even
looked at the suggestion here that said restart the
computer, and rename the Normal.dot file to something
else. Then check and see if it works. . . doesn't work. I
still get the errors. I've also tried deleting Normal.dot
but that doesn't work either.

Also, I can run Microsofts Troubleshooter that they tell
me to download, because I can't open the template that it
is in.

The problem may have been when my mother downloaded a
template from Microsoft. But she doesn't remember if she
deleted it or what it was or where it was.

Someone please help. I'm so sick of this error, and will
have to restore my computer, but that is a major last
resort.

Thanks,
Kat

Put the WORD disk in the CD drive and do a "repair" install.

Can anyone help me with this? It doesn't seem like my
posts are showing up on the list either.
