normal.dot file corrupted

My normal.dot file has been corrupted, for example I cannot see in a word
document my logo which is a .jpg file, plus the show/hide icon doesn't do
it's job.
My question, where and how do I get my normal.dot file back to its original.

Help.

*If* your Normal.dot were corrupted, you could get a fresh copy by simply
renaming it (with Word closed) and restarting Word. But it is unlikely from
these symptoms alone that it is corrupted. Go to the View tab of Tools |
Options and make sure that "Drawings" is checked and "Picture placeholders"
is *not* checked. Also make sure that you do not have any of the boxes under
"Nonprinting characters" or "Formatting marks" checked. Also, if this is
Word 2002 or 2003, make sure that "White space between pages" is checked.

this dosen't sound like its corrupted but if it ever does
1. just search your system for the normal.dot file
2. delete it (no this is not a bad idea, as word replaces
it with a brand new, completely original normal.dot file
in the same place)
3. you might have to restart your computer?
4. or just start up word and the file will be created.

i learned this from PC WORLD magazine a while ago.

Deleting it is a bad idea if you have customizations stored there. Renaming
it will permit you to retrieve many of the customizations using the
Organizer.
