normal.dot recovery

I have a Normal.dot file with a lot of macros and autotext that I would like
to recover. Here's what happened.

I was working in Photoshop trying to print when I got an email so I switched
to Outlook to open it up while the print dialog in Photoshop was still
opened. I then tried to reply to the email that I had opened. Everything got
hung up at that point and I had to End Tasks. When I tried to re-open Word it
immediately popped up with an error and closed down again. This happened
repeatedly as it kept trying to restart Word. One error said something about
the acrobat toolbar, but I don't remember what it was. Then a message telling
me there was an error in the normal.dot file and asked to replace it, which I
did and I saved the changes to the new normal.dot file. Then I took my
back-up of my customized Normal.dot and replaced the new one that had just
been created. Same errors. So, had it create another new normal.dot. Then i
went and deleted the PDFMaker.dot files from the templates folders because I
thought it might have something to do with that. Started Word again, had it
create a new normal.dot and saved it. Shut down Word and replaced the
normal.dot file with my Normal.dot file again. Same errors. Any ideas?

It seems clear that your customized normal.dot has been damaged. Instead of
trying to start Word with a damaged normal.dot, have you tried using the
Organizer to rescue the macros and AutoText entries?

To start the Organizer (Word 2003): On the Tools menu, click Templates and
Add-Ins. Click the Organizer button. Click the Close File button, and then
choose Open File to locate your renamed normal.dot. If you are able to open
it, copy the macros and AutoText to your new normal.dot.

If this fails too, I suspect that you are out of luck. :-(
